Underthread

Your bobbin thread may only be visible on the reverse side of your embroidery, but it is still a very important part. The quality of your chosen bobbin thread affects the productivity during manufacturing and the look and longevity of the embroidery itself. Ensuring that the tensions of your top and bottom threads are set correctly will prevent the bobbin thread from pulling through into your design and will also reduce the risk of your thread breaking or creating unsightly loops. If the embroidery is done on a garment and will come into contact with skin, it should not be rough. It is also important that the chosen bobbin thread will have the required resistance against wear and tear if worn and when cleaned. All our bobbin threads are polyester and are resistant to bleach, washable at 95°C and soft yet abrasion resistant.

Self-winding bobbin threads or pre-wound bobbins?

The choice between the two options really is a matter of preference or habit. There are arguments in favour of each.

Pre-wound bobbins are suitable for a wide range of embroidery machines, but you should first ensure that they fit and will perform on yours. You will benefit from their usage in terms of speed, planning and convenience. All you need to do is to place them in the bobbin case and then you are ready to start. With good quality bonding and precision winding, youre assured of consistent tension and metreage per bobbin. This leads to fewer bobbin changes and tension adjustment on your machines, meaning higher productivity.

Seralon Spun Polyester is the ideal thread for winding your own bobbins. Seralon is locally manufactured at ACA Threads factory in Brackenfell. As a leading sewing thread manufacturer, ACA Threads are dedicated to producing products that meet world-class standards. Either the M120 or M180 Seralon spun polyester can be used to wind your own bobbins. The Seralon M180 is a finer thread and you can therefore fit more thread on your bobbin, resulting in fewer bobbin changes than if you used the M120. The Seralon M120 is, however, the commonly used ticket size for general sewing and is a versatile addition to any business in garment manufacturing.
